Yoga Trek, 911 S. Lombard in Oak Park, offers free "community" yoga classes on Sundays 4:30-5:30 p.m. and free meditation from 5:45 - 6:15 p.m. Donations are encouraged - and they go to West Suburban PADS and the Women's Global Education Project.

At first glance, First Lutheran Church on the 6700 block of 31st Street, is easily overlooked. There’s not much to it, just a dimly lit sign and an empty parking lot around the corner. It appears to be abandoned, despite the few people sitting on the church steps, talking quietly amongst themselves.

Everything started to fall apart for Kenith Price after his wife died in October.

They'd been separated for a while, he said, but he was still spending time with her. Then she died, and Price found himself depressed and alone.

And suddenly, he was also homeless.

Feb. 27, we honored the generous partners, donors and volunteers (1,000 of them!) who make it possible for West Suburban PADS to give hope and refuge to those who are homeless in our community.

Crowded and underfunded, suburban shelters turned away an increasing number of homeless last year and already have done it this year...

PADS - a Maywood-based homeless help organization that serves Oak Park and several other communities - held an open house last week to show off its expanded spaces, which are located at 1851 S. 9th Ave. in Maywood.
