Spirituality, Ethics, and Religion writer, Tom Holmes, examines the inception, history and mission of West Suburban PADS.




Yoga Trek, 911 S. Lombard in Oak Park, offers free "community" yoga classes on Sundays 4:30-5:30 p.m. and free meditation from 5:45 - 6:15 p.m. Donations are encouraged - and they go to West Suburban PADS and the Women's Global Education Project.

There’s not much to it, just a dimly lit sign and an empty parking lot around the corner. It appears to be abandoned, despite the few people sitting on the church steps, talking quietly amongst themselves.

Obama Administration unveils national strategic plan to finish the job of ending veteran and chronic homelessness by 2015 and among families, youth and children by 2020.

Everything started to fall apart for Kenith Price after his wife died in October.
They'd been separated for a while, he said, but he was still spending time with her. Then she died, and Price found himself depressed and alone.
And suddenly, he was also homeless.

West Suburban PADS provided overnight emergency shelter to 178 adults and six children during the month of March, totaling 1,806 nights of shelter and 5,766 meals served.

Feb. 27, we honored the generous partners, donors and volunteers (1,000 of them!) who make it possible for West Suburban PADS to give hope and refuge to those who are homeless in our community.

Crowded and underfunded, suburban shelters turned away an increasing number of homeless last year and already have done it this year...

PADS - a Maywood-based homeless help organization that serves Oak Park and several other communities - held an open house last week to show off its expanded spaces, which are located at 1851 S. 9th Ave. in Maywood.
