Our Impact - 2009

Emergency Shelter (2008-2009)

  • 494 adults and 20 children received food and shelter.
  • 12,170 nights of shelter and 36,340 meals were provided.
  • 1,000 volunteers staffed the shelter for 241 nights, giving more than 19,000 hours of their time.
  • 39,000 shelter meals were purchased, prepared and served by volunteers.
  • $418,403 of in-kind support was donated to Emergency Shelter operations by the community.

Summer Transitional Shelter

  • 23 individuals participated – 15 as regular guests and eight on an emergency basis.
  • 472 nights of shelter and 1,416 meals were provided.
  • 13 of 15 participants maintained or increased their income, and 12 maintained compliance with contributing to their savings plans.
  • Nine secured housing by the end of the program and eight of those housed retained their housing for six months.

Supportive Services

  • 342 individuals received assistance through the Support Center and made a total of 3,782 visits to the facility in 2009.
  • 323 individuals had their basic needs met through the Support Center.
  • 159 individuals obtained case management services.
  • 129 engaged in medical, mental health or substance abuse services.
  • 94 individuals secured housing through the Support Center.
  • 73 individuals engaged in Life Skills classes.
  • 42 people increased their income by obtaining benefits and/or securing employment.

Supportive Housing

Transitional Housing
  • 73 individuals in 28 households received Transitional Housing.
  • 11 of the 14 households that exited the program in 2009 secured permanent housing.
  • 10 of those 14 households increased their income; the average increase was $667.90 per month.
Permanent Supportive Housing
  • Six individuals in six households received Permanent Housing.
  • 2,167 days/nights of housing were provided.
Rapid Re-Housing
  • Between October (when funding became available) and December, eight households living in the emergency shelter were placed into apartments with short-term financial assistance.

Employment Readiness

  • Seven of the nine participants in Class One of the Career Passport pilot program graduated from the intensive therapeutic second phase.

Homeless Prevention

  • 130 adults and children received a total of $38,953 in Homeless Prevention assistance.
